Something limited to backyard stills, counterfeit spirits overseas, or dodgy imports intercepted at the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>That is no longer the case<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recent investigations in Victoria have found counterfeit vodka being sold openly through licensed bottle shops, pubs and nightclubs. Laboratory testing reportedly detected <strong>methanol <\/strong>and plastic contaminants in some products. Researchers estimate the illicit alcohol trade is now worth hundreds of millions of dollars annually in lost excise revenue. Violence, extortion and firebombings linked to black-market supply chains are now being discussed openly by police and industry bodies.
